Senior Fashion
No matter what your age, whether you are forty, fifty, sixty, seventy, eighty, or older, it’s no cliché that looking great starts with feeling great. The most expensive skin products, makeup, and fashion-forward clothing can’t camouflage feeling off-kilter. Fashion starts with eating the right foods, getting enough sleep, exercising to the best of our ability, good posture (which facilitates breathing), and filling our time with pursuits that inspire and challenge us—things that fill us up from the inside out, or as some might say, feed the soul.
At the same time, things can also work from the outside in. Fashion sense and personal style are important. Looking great overall can impact our feelings, lifting our spirits in the dark times we all have, providing incentive to get out and do more.
Shoes
For women, while comfort is increasingly important and the stilettos have likely gone by the wayside, flats don’t necessarily have to be plain and unadorned. Look for brightly-colored flats, or flats with bows, jewels, and flowers that are real conversation starters.
Scarves
The French have always known how to make a statement with scarves. French women are famous for having a different scarf for every day of the year (almost!), owning scarves in varying fabrics (silk; chiffon; cashmere; wool), textures, designs, lengths, and widths. There is no wrong way to wear a scarf, making it a highly versatile accessory that can change the entire look of an outfit and take a single article of clothing from casual to dressy and back again.
Hats
For women or men, hats are always in style and like scarves, can change the look of an outfit and enhance what may seem ordinary. A beautiful or dapper hat can be a focal point, drawing attention to a smiling face and opening the door to compliments and friendly conversation.
Outerwear
Whether it’s a wrap for women or a stylish jacket for men, coordinated outerwear can complement and pull together clothing in a finished kind of way. Protection from the elements doesn’t have to be limited to what’s utilitarian. Look for wraps that drape and flatter in pastel or bright colors and patterns, and jackets and coats that are brightly colored and textured, and/or with cuts that flatter.
